A Case Study on Refugees

What is this project about?

The InterAct project identifies and addresses success factors of cooperation between Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Speech Therapy and Health Care Education in psychosocial interventions for refugees, by combining teaching and training models, experiences from practice and corresponding research evidence.

Who we are

The InterAct project collects experiences from refugee centres in four European countries (Germany, Greece, Spain, Sweden) through the collaboration of academic institutions and creates transfer of these experiences to regular Psychosocial Support Practice, Education and Research.

Educational Toolbox on Psychosocial Practice 

The interdisciplinary Educational Toolbox on Psychosocial Practice contains a flexible Curriculum and Modular Learning & Teaching Elements, that can be used by higher education study courses or interdisciplinary study courses in Health-Related or Social Studies, like: Psychology | Social Work | Occupational Therapy | Physical Therapy | Speech Therapy | Health Care Education | Pedagogy

Practice Guidelines

The Practice Guidelines – Handbook for Practitioners are directed towards organisations and single professionals active in psychosocial interventions. The purpose is to describe experiences and to provide structured guidance for organisation and implementation of cooperative Interdisciplinary Processes in Psychosocial Work. They are available for download in English, German, Greek, Swedish and Spanish.

Latest News

5th Partners’ Meeting Online

Even though we did not meet in Berlin as originally planned, we had the opportunity to schedule and complete online the 5th Partners’ Meeting on the 21st and 22nd of September.

October is the month when we finalised our Educational Toolbox, Practitioner’s Handbook and Policy Recommendations. The dissemination involved the organisation of educational seminars in Germany, Spain, Greece and Sweden. We go through the final phase of the InterAct project full of inspiration, energy and enthusiasm, grateful to be part of this creative synergy.

Workshop on Cultural Humility

Eirini Adamopoulou (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and Margarita Mondaca (Karolinska Institutet) completed a workshop on “Cultural sensitivity in the context of migration and diversity” along with a team of 20 international students of Psychology, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy (Chile, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, USA, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands).

The workshop took place in the context of the International Week and Community Based Rehabilitation course organised by Karolinska Institutet each year. Even though from a distance, we were able to inter-act and bridge our cultural differences. We wish to thank everyone for their participation.

Online Meeting

Teleconferences substitute physical presence due to COVID19. We continue to work remotely, sharing our compassion and solidarity especially with refugees and asylum seekers, one of the most vulnerable groups in our society, on which InterAct project focuses.

4th Partners’ Meeting, Stockholm

This one was successfully completed in Stockholm in the 4th and 5th March 2020. A very big “Thank You” to our hosts from Karolinska Institutet. We continue our collaborative journey inspired and energised!

3rd Partners’ Meeting, Athens

The third partners’ meeting was conducted on 21st to 22nd of October 2019 at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.

Colours make the world go round

“If we were to assign a colour to each cultural community, the result would be a multicoloured picture of the World”. “It is important to keep in mind that there is no such thing as the average refugee”. Participating students of the “InterAct: Interdisciplinary Cooperation in Psychosocial Interventions: A case study on refugees” Erasmus+ Programme create a beautiful video on the different ways the refugee issue became tangible to each one of them while attending the programme.
